Early Years Foundation Stage

At Burley Nursery School we follow the governments Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), a framework which recognises the holistic nature of development and learning at this age, with an emphasis on children learning through interaction with people and exploring the world around them. EYFS identifies the individuality, efforts and achievements of children and recognises that learning and development take place during all activities.

The EYFS requirements are divided into three prime areas: communication & language development; physical development; and personal, social & emotional development. As children grow, these prime areas help them to develop skills in four specific areas: literacy; mathematics; understanding the world; and expressive arts and design.

Our nursery meets these requirements through a rich, play-based framework for learning and development. We carefully balance child-initiated activities with planned, adult-guided learning and teaching. So you can relax, knowing that your child is receiving excellent standards of learning and care.
